Happy July 4th from Saint Germain’s

Happy 4th of July from Saint Germain Catering! We hope you are able to kick back, relax, and celebrate with your family and friends on this great historic holiday!

We’ve talked before about celebrating the 4th of July in Washington D.C. (check out the blog here). And we still recommend seeing the fireworks there! However, we’d also like to take a moment to honor our country and celebrate our freedom. Therefore, we feel it’s important to talk a little bit about the history of Independence Day.

The first noted observance of Independence Day was a year after the signing (July 4th, 1777), when thirteen gunshots were fired together in the morning and in the evening. The day was otherwise celebrated in a manner very similar to what we enjoy today: Friends and family celebrated with great food and fireworks. The meals of the 1700s and 1800s were a little different than we have now, and our fireworks are a little more sophisticated today, but nonetheless both were a part of the celebration, just as they are today. For example, did you know that many of the foods we currently consider traditional Thanksgiving fare—roast turkey, mashed potatoes, and so forth—were common everyday meals during the 1800s?

Depending on your style, you can enjoy the 4th of July with family and friends over BBQ chicken, cheeseburgers or hamburgers, and hot dogs, or perhaps something more unique such as kabobs or even seafood. Or maybe your family and friends celebrate Independence Day with something that closely resembles a meal of the 1800s. Whatever your favored food, Saint Germain Catering can help you make the 4th of July as commemorated as the day the Declaration of Independence was signed! We offer a great variety of meals and snacks to make your 4th of July day perfect.
